Reference product

Oregano, Origanum vulgare, in four grades

Oregano is the reference product for this program, and the grade ladder shown applies across the range: whole leaf, rubbed, cut and sifted, and milled powder. Particle size is agreed per order and confirmed by sieve analysis. Product, grade, treatment status and packing are configured for the buyer program; processing is performed through selected production partners, and ALPHATRADE remains the commercial counterpart from quotation to delivery.

Program terms
Order and scheduleMinimum order, lead time and delivery schedule are defined by the nature and breakdown of each supply program - product, format, brand and destination - and confirmed with the quotation.
Incoterms and paymentPrograms are executed under Incoterms® 2020 - FOB, CFR, CIF, and DAP or DDP for selected destinations. Payment terms and shipment plan are confirmed with the quotation.

Origin is confirmed for the selected program and stated on the shipping documents. Shelf life is counted from the date of production. Remaining shelf life at delivery depends on the production slot and transit for the selected program and is stated on the program sheet.

Quality & compliance

Programs requiring a recognized food-safety certification are structured around a producing site holding a current FSSC 22000 or other GFSI-recognized certificate alongside HACCP, confirmed for the selected product before order. Organic certification, to the European and the United States National Organic Program standards, is confirmed against the selected producing site and program before order where the program requires it. Phosphine (PH3) fumigation is available where the destination market and the agreed treatment status allow it. Batch-specific analysis, applicable certificates and export documentation are provided to qualified buyers. Compliance and quality · US import compliance and FSVP.

Common questions on herb, spice and botanical programs

Can ALPHATRADE supply herbs, spices and botanicals in bulk?

ALPHATRADE supplies herbs, spices and botanicals from Egypt in bulk and industrial formats and contracts with you as seller. The product, grade and particle size are selected from the range on this page and written into the program specification, with analysis issued against that specification for each lot.

What grades and pack formats are available?

The documented formats are the carton for whole flowers, the two-layer sack for leaf and cut leaf, and the food-grade sack for seed at 20 kg (44 lb). Grades, particle sizes and treatment options are set out in the specification above and are confirmed for the program before the first order.

What applies to organic herbs and botanicals?

Organic status is a certification held by the producing site and by the specific product, not a general attribute of a range. Where a program is to be supplied as organic, the certificate, its scope and its expiry are confirmed in writing for the selected product before the first order, and the certification body and standard are recorded on the program specification. Organic claims on the label are reviewed against the requirements of the destination market before artwork is approved.

How are particle size and treatment specified?

Particle size, cut and any treatment applied are written into the program specification for the selected grade before the first order. Microbiological limits and contaminant limits for the destination market are recorded in the same specification, and each lot is analyzed against it.

Who is responsible for FDA requirements when importing herbs and botanicals into the United States?

FSVP obligations sit with the designated FSVP importer, where applicable, and producing facilities keep their own applicable FDA obligations. The Foreign Supplier Verification Program is the importer's duty under FSMA, not the supplier's, and the FSVP importer is generally the US owner or consignee at entry, which may be a different company from the customs importer of record. Prior Notice must reach the FDA before arrival, filed by the designated filer. ALPHATRADE supplies the supplier-side evidence the importer's file requires and provides the product, producing-site and shipment data the filer needs.
