Responsible sourcing

Our Approach to Responsible Sourcing

ALPHATRADE’s position is that sourcing decisions should weigh working conditions, legal compliance and environmental management alongside product quality and commercial requirements. This page states what we ask of producing partners, what evidence we hold, and what we do not yet measure.

A clearer way to work

A stated policy, not a sustainability achievement.

ALPHATRADE owns no factory. Our influence lies in which producing sites we select and what we require of them. Our Supplier Expectations Policy sets lawful employment, no child or forced labor, safe working conditions, the right to raise grievances, environmental permits and recognized food-safety management as the conditions of working with us, and asks every partner to acknowledge it in writing. Adopted on 15 October 2026, the policy is scheduled for first review on 15 December 2026 and annually thereafter.

Evidence on file

Audit reports and certificates for selected producing sites.

We hold third-party social-audit reports for selected producing sites, environmental-management certificates for some of them, and product certifications for selected products, alongside their food-safety audits. Coverage varies by site and product. These documents do not establish performance across our supply base and do not certify ALPHATRADE.

  • Social-audit reports using the SMETA methodology for selected sites, which the policy requires to be read for findings and corrective action
  • Site-level environmental-management certification under ISO 14001 for some selected sites
  • Organic and Rainforest Alliance certificates held by selected sites, valid only for the products and scope they name

What the policy requires

Four commitments the policy requires of us.

Site selection

Under the policy, at selection we request the site’s available social-audit evidence and read its date, scope, findings and corrective-action status. Where no evidence exists, that is recorded and weighed in the selection; it is a factor, not an automatic exclusion.

Lawful and safe work

The policy requires lawful employment, no child or forced labor and safe working conditions. A suspected serious violation is escalated to the policy owner the same day. New orders are suspended where critical child-labor, forced-labor or life-safety findings remain unresolved, until credible evidence of closure is received.

Packaging choices

On request, we assess packaging alternatives with the producing partner against product protection, destination-market requirements and the technical evidence available, and state what each option changes.

What we do not yet measure

We do not maintain consolidated supply-chain data on carbon emissions, water use, packaging impacts or waste, and we make no measured-reduction claim. We say so rather than imply it.

The working process

01

Policy

The policy requires written partner acknowledgment before a program is quoted. Acknowledgment is a declaration, not independent verification of compliance.

02

Evidence

Social-audit and environmental evidence is requested at selection and recorded in the program file.

03

Review

The Sourcing and Procurement Department records audit dates, scope, findings and corrective-action status, and sets follow-up dates for unresolved findings. The policy is reviewed every twelve months.

Common questions

Start with the details that matter.

Is ALPHATRADE certified for sustainability or ethical trade?

No. ALPHATRADE holds no certification of its own. Certificates and audit reports belong to the producing site and its certified scope; available documents are reviewed for the selected site and program. A food-safety, Halal or Kosher certificate says nothing about working conditions or the environment, and we do not present it as if it did.

What does a SMETA report tell a buyer?

It records the findings of a social audit at a site on a given date against labor, health and safety, environment and business-ethics criteria, with the corrective actions agreed. It is a record, not a certification. Where a selected site holds one, we read it and share it with a qualified buyer with the site’s authorization.

Can you supply organic or Rainforest Alliance certified product?

For selected products and sites, yes. A product specification alone does not establish certification: any organic or Rainforest Alliance claim requires separate verification of a valid certificate and of its coverage of the proposed supply, before order. The certificate then travels with the program documentation.

Do you report carbon emissions for a shipment?

We do not currently provide carbon reporting. Available route, transport-mode and container details may be shared for an agreed shipment; they are not an emissions calculation.

Who reviews the evidence?

The Sourcing and Procurement Department of ALPHATRADE, which owns the Supplier Expectations Policy, with the result recorded in the program file. The policy is reviewed every twelve months.

Professional buyer inquiries

Send the requirement. We will review the commercial fit.

Your requirement does not need to be complete. Share what you know: product, quantity, destination, packaging requirements and timing. ALPHATRADE will review the scope and outline the next commercial step.
