Rice Supply Programs

Long grain rice photographed close, the individual grains clearly visible

Basmati, long grain and round grain rice for retail, foodservice and private-label programs, from India, Pakistan and Vietnam.

Variety, milling, residue specification and pack format are agreed before the first shipment, because on rice those four decisions set both the price and whether the cargo clears the destination market.

Reference product

1121 sella basmati, extra long grain

The reference line for the program. It is the longest grain in the range and the one buyers benchmark against, so its full specification is published below. Every other variety follows its own sheet, confirmed for the selected program.

Quality & compliance

Quality documentation is confirmed for the selected program and destination market. Batch-specific analysis, applicable certificates and export documentation are provided to qualified buyers.

Multi-residue screening, aflatoxin and ochratoxin results are issued per lot against the residue specification agreed for the program.

Figures are target parameters for the reference line and are confirmed on the program specification before order.

Residue specification

Codex or EU residue specification, steamed or parboiled

Two decisions are taken before milling, and both change the price. They are set per program rather than offered as one fixed grade.

Residue specificationCodex 0.05% or EU 0.01%Which destination markets the cargo can enter. The tighter EU specification requires a narrower grower pool

The residue specification is confirmed in writing on the program sheet before production, because it cannot be corrected after milling.

Loading capacity

Rice ships in a 20 ft container, not a 40 ft

A 20 ft container takes 23 tonnes of rice and reaches its WEIGHT limit before the box is full. A 40 ft would run out of permitted weight with the container part empty, so it is not used on this product - which is the opposite of how a frozen reefer loads.

Container loading data by format, as provided by the producing site
Pack formatBags per 20 ft containerNet weight per container
Retail bag 1 kg (2.2 lb)23,000 bags23 MT (50,700 lb)

Bulk sack 25 kg (55 lb)920 sacks23 MT (50,700 lb)
Bulk sack 50 kg (110 lb)460 sacks23 MT (50,700 lb)

Counts are 23 tonnes divided by the net pack weight. Palletised loads carry fewer bags than a floor-loaded container because the pallets themselves take weight and space; the configuration is confirmed before booking.
